.technology with a twist

dancing figures

Yesterday afternoon I spent about 1/2 hour with a Stage 2 class as they were introduced to blogging. Several things I noticed and am pondering on

  1. the majority of the boys approached the task with great gusto while most of the girls seemed more tentative
  2. keyboarding skills were noticeably low across the group
  3. the girls were helping each other to problem-solve
  4. when the class was asked what they might like to have on their blog? 3 boys chorused GAMES!!

SB did a fabulous job of simply explaining a rather complex tool & I was really impressed that she revisited new terms once more at the conclusion of the lesson.

…a passport to the world

passport

… am thinking about creating a online passport for our students and in it they get stamps and visas according to the various skills and abilities they achieve in ICT.

With each stamp or visa they are granted greater access to further resources.

When they leave the school or apply for work or a traineeship we can print it up for them to include in their resume.

What do you think?

I have my cup of hot lemon and honey, my box of tissues and a rug over my knees and am waiting to approve your comments about the article that reviews our film……

At first the kids thought it was all a bit weird and were uncertain of whether or not I was actually online. Once they realised this to be the case the momentum gathered and I was pushed to keep up with approving their comments and keeping the conversations flowing.

Debra the article below is a film review about the film, I want you to read it and see if you agree/disagree and can use some of the comments in the essay you’re writing ok?

In class this afternoon we reviewed what they all thought of this mode of working and the kids came up with some very perceptive comments regarding privacy, how to make the task more real and so on. They then proceeded to address comments to each others comments.

but playing like eni meani miini moe SHELLEY, is good so that you agree on both sides in one point, so you can get different ideas on both sides, i think this makes it easier for me, but not sure if it helps you guys

aren’t we meant to do both sides in the essay?

So far as this experiment goes I think it was a great success – and the kids are keen to keep working this way as well.
