…misoneism

What a beautiful word! (miss-a-nee-ism) and what does it mean? “hatred, fear or intolerance of innovation or change”

It would seem that I have been labouring under false pretences and have mislabelled so many in the field of education when I (fondly) referred to them as dinosaurs! They’re not prehistoric in their thinking at all; they are actively resisting change. Whether this resistance be fuelled by a dislike of all things related to integrating technology, a fear of getting it wrong or breaking something, or just plain irritation with the thought of the amount of new work integration will generate for them…whichever way you look at it … they are resisting change.

That’s all I am going to say. (in spite of there being so, so much I might say!!)

I’m impressed, only 1 main paragraph, and I know there was so much in there.

Well, so what are we to do with all the misoneist’s? My first thoughts I won’t share  , but it’s something that we need to work out.

Maybe if we label them publicly….

Well, I for one have learned something today. Who says blogs don’t assist learning? A missoneist that’s who.

..there is no need to “out” them because they manage that quite well all by themselves.

And I have a couple of students who exhibit the same symptoms ….maybe inherited from their parents, but they are certainly not typical of the descriptions we read of 21st century students. The brainwashing has been very effective and undoing the past poor practices is painful for them and me ….. but necessary, unless they have working as a ceck-out chick in Woolies as a career aspiration.
