banging my head against a wall cause it feels good when I stop…
…was asked to cover another teacher’s class at short notice today – that’s okay, that’s not what bothered me – what floored me was that this class seemed to have no real understanding of the purpose of using ppt as a means of presenting info they had gathered. in fact, when I tried to work with those who asked for my help they were resistant…obstinate?…to the idea of removing slabs of text ( very obviously cut & paste too I might add) from their slides and developing brief summaries in their place….I started banging my head against the wall when one delightful young man looked me in the eye and said ” (insert teacher name) said this was good and all I want you to do is show me how to make every slide a different colour so the class likes my presentation”…bump, bump, bump….can I stop now??

hey that’s OK ….tomorrow I have to visit a class to teach them how to use ppt! I had hoped we had moved beyond MS Office as the only means of using technology in a classroom.
This is Australia 2008 isn’t it???

@lg “can I stop now??” No, no you cant.
What on earth do we do about this? I cant believe that PowerPoint is now just a method of making Word Documents, but on slides. Hey I could set up a bot to email (insert teacher name here) with the Death By PowerPoint slideshow that we love.
@ghugs “This is Australia 2008 isn’t it???” Yes, yes it is. But that could be the cause of the problem. Most of the innovation is coming from so few of you. We need ICT to be given more leverage from the decision makers, and unfortunately it looks like it will need to be enforced before a lot of Teachers will fully embrace the benefits, even though they will probably do it grudgingly.
